Features

A mail client that respects the message

Pagkugi presents mail as text: readable by default, structured when the message has structure, and never rendered by a web engine.

Reading

Mail is text. Pagkugi reads it that way instead of turning it into a web page.

Plain text first

HTML mail is converted to a clean, readable text representation rather than rendered by a browser. Nothing in a message is executed or fetched silently.

Proportional text by default

Prose is set in a proportional face, as a book is, because it reads more comfortably and fits more on a line. A fixed-width face is reserved for content whose grid carries meaning: code, patches, tables, and ASCII art.

Not a browser

Pagkugi has no web engine. A message is something to read, not a page to run.

Built on standards

MIME, IMAP, SMTP, RFC 3676 flowed text, character encodings, iCalendar, Sieve, and CommonMark, so mail stays interoperable instead of depending on a private format.

Quotes and signatures

Flowed text, quote depth, signatures, and reply attributions are recognized and presented with restraint, and collapsed quoted regions stay out of the way.

Structured content

Stack traces, shell transcripts, tables, and Git or CVS patches are recognized and shown as the structured content they are.

Markdown

Read a Markdown message's literal source, or render it to PDF when you want a document.

Links and images

URLs become numbered references with explicit actions, and inline images are referenced without silently fetching remote resources.

Calendar invitations

Invitation details open in a focused read-only viewer while the .ics attachment stays available for the calendar application of your choice.

Writing

Compose deliberately, with the tools you already use.

Sending

Pagkugi sends mail directly over SMTP, so no external sending tool is needed.

Drafts and Outbox

Work is saved as you go, and a message that cannot be delivered waits in the Outbox for retry instead of disappearing.

Spell checking

Spell checking runs on your machine, with a bundled English (US) dictionary and other reviewed languages available to download, per-mailbox language selection, and a personal dictionary.

Recipient autocomplete

Addresses are recalled as you type from the mail you already have.

Attachments and signatures

Attachments open or save through standard system handlers, and per-identity signatures are prefilled without entering the message body.

Organizing

Your mail lives in open, inspectable files that stay yours.

Open storage

Messages are ordinary files in standard Maildir folders that any compliant tool can read. There is no proprietary database and no lock-in.

Multiple mailboxes

Register several mail stores, discover account settings, and keep each mailbox's state distinct.

Folders and archives

Standard folders, read state, moves, and whole-thread or whole-conversation archiving run through one consistent set of actions.

Mailing lists

Messages from a mailing list are recognized from their standard List-* headers and filed into a folder for that list. Reply addresses the list instead of the original sender, and Help, New Post, and Unsubscribe appear only for real lists, each as an explicit action.

Local search

Full-text search runs locally over your mail, with no server or network involved.

Conversations and Threads

Related messages form a conversation, and a Thread presents one clear line from its first message to the latest reply, so sibling branches never get in the way of the discussion.

Pending

Pending gathers every open Thread into one work view, oldest first. Open a thread, reply, and archive it; completing a Thread archives the whole conversation, so finished work leaves Pending and unfinished mail is never lost.

Synchronization

Pagkugi keeps your mail current with your provider automatically, with no separate tool to run.

Safety and trust

Conservative defaults, explicit actions, and no surprises.

Local phishing analysis

Suspicious mail is analyzed locally and kept separate from trusted server authentication and from server spam or virus signals.

Blocking and lists

Block senders and take conservative mailing-list actions without suppressing legitimate mail.

No accounts or telemetry

There is no activation, no online account, and no telemetry. A purchased license is a file you own, not a subscription.

Safe processing

Message content is never executed or passed to a shell, so opening mail cannot run code.

Server settings

Forwarding and vacation settings are managed through ManageSieve when your server offers it.

See it for yourself

Evaluate Pagkugi before you decide. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
